NYC Honors Thay + New Website Launch
It is said there are 84,000 Dharma doors; let our new website be one of them.
Dear Beloved Community,
On April 11th, New York City officially named “Thích Nhất Hạnh Way” at the intersection of Broadway and West 109th Street, honoring our teacher and globally revered Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. Read about the events of the day and view photos here.
It is with great joy that we share with you the dawn of a new Deer Park online experience. Over the past seven months we have been working with Cosmic — a Santa Cruz, CA-based creative agency that specializes in social impact organizations. Together we have updated the look and feel, the ease of use, and the messaging on the Deer Park website. To the joy of all participants, the bell was invited to begin and close each of our weekly collaborative meetings.
Inspired by the idea of open doors and pathways to Thay’s teachings, the site has been transformed into a portal through which people around the world can enter into our online expression of Thay’s beloved community.
Once through the portal, there are many pathways to take to deepen your mindfulness practice, explore poetry, podcasts, videos, and collections of mixed media on specific topics.
Currently we are hosting many friends ages 18-35 for our annual Wake Up Retreat here in the hidden mountain and we look forward to kicking off the Viet Wake Up Tour in Seattle next week.
Take a breath and enjoy reading this month’s issue of Coyote Tracks below.
In peace and kindness,
Your Brothers and Sisters at Deer Park Monastery
Announcing a New Deer Park Website
In deciding to create a new website, one of our aspirations was to provide you with a place online where you could come when you're unable to visit the monastery. See you inside the new Deer Park website.
Thích Nhất Hạnh Honored in Street Co-Naming Ceremony in New York City
This significant day received a lot of press coverage, including articles in Lion’s Roar, Tricycle, Westside Rag, and Religion News. We are grateful for everyone who attended to support this historic event to honor our teacher. Read about the events of the day and view photos here.
Mindful Walking in New York City
Just a few days after the Street Naming Ceremony, Senior Monastics Br. Phap Luu and Br. Phap Xa, co-authors of Hiking Zen, guided a 90-minute mindful walk through the paths of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York.
Friends from near and far gathered by the Abraham Lincoln Statue in a practice of mindful walking — a gentle invitation to slow down, touch the present moment, and nourish both body and mind in community.
Happy Farm Needs Your Help
We are very grateful for the many friends who have been joining us on Saturdays to help start the Happy Farm. Together, we build the future. Check our events calendar to join us for an upcoming Community Work Day.
We kindly request your support to establish a foundation that will make this vision possible. Your contribution will help to create a mindful farming community that will sustain and nourish many generations of people for years to come.
Our first and most crucial need is establishing a sustainable water system. Your contribution to water infrastructure will quite literally help the farm flow with life for years to come. Learn more about our Happy Farms fundraiser & make a donation here.

Meeting Today's World with the Bodhisattva's Eyes and Hands
Join renowned Buddhist teacher Roshi Joan Halifax for an insightful workshop exploring how we can meet today’s challenges with the wisdom and compassion of a bodhisattva—one who is dedicated to awakening and serving all beings. Drawing from Buddhist teachings and engaged practice, Roshi Joan guides participants in cultivating the clarity of a bodhisattva’s eyes and the skillful action of their hands, offering practical ways to respond to the world’s suffering with courage and love.
As we joyfully prepare for our upcoming special retreats, we are inviting mindfulness practitioners to join us in service — to help care for our community before, during, and after Teen Camp, Family Retreat, and Vietnamese Retreat. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities here.

Rooted in Resilience
Brother Nhất Ấn shares how following monastic practice can clarify the path to healing, both personally and globally. Read the article on The Mindfulness Bell here.
“Slowly, I see myself becoming like a well-rooted tree, unshaken by heavy rain or strong winds. Though I may sway under pressure, storms will pass and the sun always rises. The work is never finished, but the path is clear. With every breath and in every step, I remember that healing the world starts with healing myself.”
